Replit Agent is an AI-powered coding assistant integrated into the Replit online IDE that transforms natural language descriptions into fully functional applications and websites. It's designed to streamline the entire development workflow — from initial idea to live app — all within Replit's browser-based environment.

When you provide a natural language prompt, Replit Agent processes your request through several behind-the-scenes steps. It interprets your request, using advanced AI models to parse it and break it into smaller, manageable tasks, identifying what kind of project you want, what features are needed, and which technologies might be suitable. The agent then generates code, modifies files, and implements features directly in your project by default through Build mode. Additionally, Replit Agent maintains context by saving conversations at key points, ensuring continuity between sessions so you can return to your work seamlessly. Importantly, Replit Agent runs on Replit's servers in the cloud rather than on your local machine, meaning all heavy computation and code execution is handled by Replit's infrastructure.

Replit Agent can handle a wide range of development tasks, including creating full-stack apps from scratch, adding advanced features and integrating complex APIs, designing, creating, and modifying database structures, setting up environments and managing dependencies, handling scaffolding and project setup, deploying finished applications, and browsing the web for up-to-date library and framework information.

Replit Agent supports a versatile range of languages and frameworks, including JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, HTML/CSS, Node.js, and SQL.

Basic functionality is available to all Replit users. However, accessing the full power of Replit Agent — including advanced features like comprehensive project scaffolding and deployment capabilities — requires a Replit Core subscription.

The advanced features include Extended Thinking Mode, which instructs the Agent to analyze your request more thoroughly, considering multiple approaches and edge cases, and is particularly useful for architectural decisions or comprehensive solutions. There is also High Power Mode, which uses more sophisticated AI models for advanced problem-solving, ideal for complex integrations, performance optimizations, or unfamiliar technologies. Finally, Plan Mode, in addition to the default Build mode, allows you to brainstorm ideas, plan development work, and collaborate on project architecture without modifying actual code.

Unlike tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor AI, Replit Agent goes beyond code completion and suggestions. To get better results from Replit Agent, be specific with prompts by providing detailed requests, for example, specifying features or frameworks instead of asking for a simple web app. Break down complex tasks into smaller steps for large projects, which helps the agent process tasks more accurately and allows you to monitor progress. Leverage checkpoints by using the Agent's rollback feature to undo mistakes and understand changes. Also, combine AI and human insight, knowing when to intervene with manual edits and how to restart the conversation afterward to avoid overwrites.

Beyond text prompts, you can enhance your requests by including file attachments, which involves dragging files into the text area or using the paperclip icon. You can also include web content by entering a URL and selecting "Copy page content" to add text data from webpages, or include webpage screenshots by entering a URL and selecting "Take screenshot" to provide visual references.

Yes. Replit Agent keeps track of project details across sessions, allowing it to build upon existing work when you make new requests.
